Generation Z’s aggression towards politics and family institutions: the previous generations will go and the situation will be fixed

Thought group: The meeting to analyze the behavior of generation Z with the title “What do the 80s want from us and what do we want from them?” It was held at Andishmand House of Humanities and in cooperation with the Iranian Association of Women’s Studies (Commission of Iranian Scientific Associations of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology). According to the news agency Online newsIn this meeting, Dr. Katayoun Masri, a researcher of women’s and gender studies and a member of the board of directors of the Iranian Association of Women’s Studies, presented her series of reviews in a speech. In this meeting, in addition to presenting his views, Dr. Masri reviewed the film shown about the dialogue with the 80s. It should be mentioned that it is necessary to present the views about the 80s because their culture, along with two other generations, i.e. the revolutionary generation and the generation of supporters of the Islamic Republic, is now very important. Because without knowing them, it is not possible to establish a dialogue and agreement between them, and such a thing provides the basis for more chaos. At the same time, it must be said that without the presence of generation Z who want equality and their participation in various fields, it must be said that there is no disagreement.

The situation will be corrected

Researcher of women’s and gender studies and member of the board of directors of the Iranian Association of Women’s Studies, Ketayoun Masri, spoke the last word first. Analyzing the film about Generation Z, he said: “For me, this film was very interesting because the ending of it was the statement of some people from the 80s that “if the generations of the 50s and 40s and Before they leave, the situation will be corrected. In any case, this is also the version that they have complicated for other generations.”

Masri continues by mentioning that “although the findings from the film cannot be generalized, but this is a fact, we also had the same critical view towards the previous generations, the generations of the 30s, 20s, and 40s. We thought they were behind us, we considered them backward, we thought they were interfering in our work despite their disabilities. So for all of us there has been a kind of generational gap.”

The inability of social and political institutions and the eighties

This researcher of women’s and gender studies continued by pointing out that “the film suggests that all these children, some of whom are from the city, blame the society and family for their dissatisfaction.” Of course, some of them had problems with the society, because a part of this society is made up of various institutions that did not have enough efficiency and effectiveness, and caused dissatisfaction, among them, we can mention the education institution, the political institution, And even the institution of religion was mentioned. Because the institution of religion has lost its effectiveness due to the role played by the mosque and pulpit in the 40s and 50s.

He added: “The 80s conflict with the family, as I said, is actually the tip of the arrow of their criticism.”

The frankness of the 80s accent

Ketayoun Masri further referred to their “clarity in expressing the 80s as one of the important generational characteristics” and said: “As you saw in the film, the 80s expressed the generational conflict with the sharpest words. That is, where he wants to take care of himself a lot, he says boooooooo. This literature is, in fact, the arrival of a new literature that came with generation Z and is widespread in the media.

He added: “This literature is used even on the radio and in the movies of the home channels. I want to say that the origin of such literature is in many cases generation Z or the 80s, who, whether we like it or not, are creating culture in a way.”

system with "The eighties" what to do

Another characteristic is the aggressiveness of the 80s towards the institution of the family and the institution of politics

From Masri’s point of view, “the next issue, which is a very important discussion, goes back to the root of many of their dissatisfaction with the disarray of families. Emotional divorces, lack of friendly relationship between parents, friendship with mother, and the distance they have with father, with the picture, if you pay attention in the movie, it says that my mother knows that I have a girlfriend. But he does not have the relationship with his father to raise such a discussion. Also to the photo.

He added: “These are due to the weak family relationship, which has affected the attitudes, behaviors and character of a generation due to the divorce rate, emotional divorces, and differences between couples. And because the family is atomized, we fully feel that the movement of the 80s towards independence moves more from the family. It means that the pleasure of communicating with their friends, perhaps with their sports coach or teacher, etc., is replacing the communication with their parents, so the authority of the family has greatly decreased.”

This researcher of women’s and gender studies pointed out that “the political institution blames the society, and has not prepared a plan for the generation of the 80s,” said: “This state of abandonment has led to the aggression of the 80s towards the political institution.” is The lack of a clear plan for this generation, and especially the lack of a plan in the upstream area as it should be, has not been prepared for this generation. We have not distinguished between the needs and demands of the eighties and the fifties.”

More egalitarian relationships between the sexes

Ketayoun Masri further pointed to an interesting topic “from the perspective of the Women’s Studies Association” of which he is a member of the board of directors and said: “The relationship between the two sexes is not in terms of negating or proving it, but from the perspective that all of them have connections to They look egalitarian, it was very interesting to me. Generation Z despise their peers less. I remember in our games, there was such a big gap between the two sexes, that always in the alley, the family; Boys and girls used special words to insult each other.”

He added: “Of course, based on the research I have done on social networks, I have directly found that gender awareness is increasing so much in our society, that when we ask them about women, those abuses that our generation We used to see clarity, it is less visible. Although maybe that mentality still needs to be nurtured. But the 80s have a high level of critical thinking and questioning, and in practice they do not receive an answer. This is the common thread between Generation Z. And surely in the alpha generation, questioning and critical thinking will increase if we don’t have a plan to answer their problems.”

The necessity of developing up-to-date policies for the Z and Alpha generations; Refusing to enter the university in the eighties

Next, Dr. Masri posed the question, “What should we do to respond to the generation of the eighties?” He said: “We need a set of immediate and future policies to respond to the needs of Generation Z.” Especially considering that the eighties have reached the era of productivity and are replacing the previous generations, especially the generations of the 40s and 50s.”

He added: “Educational literature in formal education, which was shared with previous generations, is no longer effective. Sometimes you have seen on social networks that some teachers show their teaching method and tolerance towards children. These patterns are very good. But has the educational system revised its way of dealing with students? Has he basically performed a pathology in this field?”

A member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Women’s Studies Association said: “So if we want to start with education first, we need to review the current policies in the face of generation Z and Alpha.” However, the generation and the very small acceptance of formal education in the 80s indicate that they have almost passed the university entrance and they are more willing to enter the labor market. This shows how the impact of the economic crisis on themselves and their families has affected their lifestyle. The lifestyle of the 80’s and his thinking about the future is very different from me in the 50’s or 60’s. Our ideals have been entering the university, and then the job market. But now this cycle is changing. Maybe he will enter the job market first, and then he wants to continue his education. As we have seen, they say very clearly that they will not enter the university. The drastic reduction of candidates for national exams, leaving many seats empty, is proof of this issue.

role model and heroism for generation z; Contradictory narratives and fusion in Tetlo

This researcher of women’s and gender studies considers “one of the most important issues, the issue of making heroes and role models for Generation Z”. He says: “In all the world, to some extent, people need a series of behavioral models. But it seems that the behavior patterns of this generation have been conflicting narratives due to the narratives they have heard from history. Maybe as it should be, we were not a good narrative of war and revolution for them, and we could not create good speech, behavior, and secretarial models for the 80s and 90s. That is why they were only listeners. And they very easily choose their models from non-patriotic people, and perhaps from people who are more disruptive and break the frameworks and symbolic order of society. Of course, it is not necessarily the case that everyone chooses negative characters? As a very serious example, a person in the film says that Zob is in Tetlo, Tetlo’s fans and followers in social networks, shows that they are more from what class, and in what age they are, and by the way, the attention of the family It is very important for teachers, educational planners, and politicians to pay attention to this issue.

He went on to say that the 80s did not believe in modeling: “I found out in talking with some of the 80s that they basically do not believe in modeling.” They believe that I am my own role model. They do not accept the fact that they follow the example of one person in all cases, this also goes back to the relativistic view that has been transferred to them from the society and currents of thought in the society. I must add here that we have not done anything special for them either. We have been so isolated that we put this generation in a dry frame, and left them in social networks, so we can’t expect them to pay attention to us. In addition, we basically did not have a platform or a media to set an example for them.”

Generation Z: The previous generations go, everything will be fixed / Absence of young people in the steering committees of doctors to choose ministers / Why don't the 80s accept us?

Making horizontal connections with the eighties as a solution for changes

Masri went on to point out an important solution for generation Z and said: “The way of politics and communication with the 80s must be completely horizontal. This does not mean abandoning all educational disciplines and society and social norms. Rather, it means considering new requirements for education and transferring norms and disciplines to young people. At one time, vertical communication worked in schools and universities, but for us it was completely intangible. I remember when the first non-profit school opened in our neighborhood in the east of Tehran, it was unbearable and strange for us that the high school girls of the said school were wearing pink coats. As if they were aliens. Now, we always looked at them with regret, because we always had to wear navy blue or black clothes. Even the color of our socks should be dark. But now the changes have started.”

This researcher of women’s and gender studies points out that “whether we want it or not, they impose their own changes and even formal education has accepted these changes.” He said: “Horizontal communication, whether in the family or in formal education, or through the political institution, is necessary and mandatory for policy making in this field. I believe that we need young people, we should bring them into play, but the reality is that we have given less new roles to our young people, whether in the family, in the community, or in the field of politics. If we say that they earn money, it is as if we want to make them lose our minds. Therefore, from the family to the governance space, we have completely left this stratum to its own devices in an abandoned, patriarchal, and patriarchal manner. For example, because I was looking for the composition of the leadership council to select ministers, etc., it was for the question of what percentage of people under 40 or under 30 years old were members of these committees? We do not accept their entry as a member of a committee or a member of a working group, then we expect them to accept us? As a rule, the 80s and then the 90s take a stand and say that it is not my choice. So we should not be surprised if they do not accept our choices. Because space is vertical space, and vertical space is a poison for confronting and planning for the 80s, both boys and girls.”
